O jornal The New York Post publicou uma lista com as 100 melhores regravações do pop e rock de todos os tempos. Liderando as selecionadas, está a cantora country Dolly Parton, que fez uma cover de "Stairway to Heaven", clássico do Led Zeppelin.
Entre as que se tornaram mais famosas que as próprias originais estão "Nothing Compares 2 U", composta por Prince, porém muito mais conhecida na voz de Sinead O'Connor, "Tainted Love", regravada pelo Soft Cell, banda dos anos 80, e por Marilyn Manson, mas composta por Gloria Jones, "Twist and Shout", que não, não é dos Beatles, mas sim do Isley Brothers, e "Walk This Way", do Run DMC, que não só se tornou mais famosa que a original do Aerosmith como tirou a banda do ostracismo.
Algumas das mais inusitadas são "Smells Like Teen Spirit", do Nirvana, cantada pelo cantor meloso Paul Anka, "My Way", o hino punk cantado por Sid Vicious, mas na verdade pertencente a Frank Sinatra, "(I Cant´Get No) Satisfaction", de você sabe quem, feita pelo Devo, e "Blue Monday", do New Order, na versão hecatombe do Orgy.
Entre aquelas muito bem-vindas que conseguiram melhorar algo que já era bom estão "Hurt", do Nine Inch Nails, na versão ainda mais corta-pulso de Johnny Cash, "Crazy Mary", da Victoria Williams, feita pelo Pearl Jam, e "Hallelujah", do compositor canadense Leonard Cohen, na voz de Jeff Buckley.
